CLARO volunteers beautify the Julia de Burgos Sheltered Home
In a gesture of solidarity and commitment, a group of Claro employee volunteers joined together on Saturday, May 11, to collaborate with Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos and improve the facilities of its center in the metropolitan area. This activity took place as a prelude to the event "Kilometers of Change", a race that will be held on May 17, 18 and 19, with the aim of raising funds to support local shelters that provide assistance to women victims of domestic violence.
One of the shelters benefiting from this initiative is Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, the first shelter for women and their children survivors of domestic violence established in Puerto Rico.
During the day, over 20 Claro volunteers carried out various improvement tasks, including painting the dining room and administrative offices, cleaning the children's playground area, pressure washing, creating a home vegetable garden, installing solar lamps and organizing the food storage area.
"At Claro, we firmly believe in the power of the community and the importance of supporting those who need it most. We are committed to concrete actions that generate a positive impact on society, and collaborating with institutions like Casa Julia is a fundamental part of our social commitment. I thank our Volunteer Network team for contributing their time to provide a better quality of life for the residents and their families," said Enrique Ortiz de Montellano, Claro's president and chief executive officer.
Casa Julia, which also offers counseling and support to survivors of domestic violence, has intensified its efforts by providing escape plans and creating safe spaces for women and children at risk. Collaboration with Claro volunteers has been crucial, significantly improving the organization's ability to provide a comprehensive service.
"Alliances such as the one we have established with Claro are fundamental to combat domestic violence, an evil that affects all spheres of our society. This collaboration not only enhances our capabilities, but also reinforces the message that eradicating this violence is a shared responsibility," said Lenna Ramírez Cintrón, executive director of Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos.
The "Kilometers of Change" race will take place over three days, where 28 women runners will run continuously around the island in a relay. The project aims to mobilize the Puerto Rican population towards awareness and action against domestic and gender violence.
Claro invites all citizens to join this Friday, May 17, in the vicinity of its headquarters, located on Roosevelt Avenue, to welcome entertainer Alexandra Fuentes, who will be the first marathon runner to pass the baton in this transcendental race.
